My name is Nicola Guarisco and I delight in narrative literature, painting and photography. I have set up my own website dedicated to the Lake of Como. For many years I have paced the shores of the Lario (Lake of Como) where I was born and raised, in the attempt to relive a fascinating world long gone that captivated many artists and personalities of all times with its charm and beauty. The website features a sequence of captioned photographs, all of which have been taken exclusively with a digital Olympus SP-510UZ (photos have been retouched by computer to adjust framing and luminosity, and also to create some effects of aquarelle blurring here and there). I have done my best to leave out any elements that were extraneous to the landscape, anything that might alter the delicate balance of nature, i.e. concrete, road signs or vehicles. Any disfiguring eyesore, if ever, can be found at the Horror Gallery page, which I created with the purpose of exposing and denouncing such shameless examples of bad town planning. My intention is not to rule out real life, but rather, focus on the most beautiful views that are usually overlooked by residents and tourists on a one-day trip. As you can see, I have a preference for overall view framing. A prospective view (whenever it does not convey the bad impression of an image “cut in half”) is definitely more characteristic than an overall one that would turn out banal in any case.
As for the paintings, subjects range from landscapes to personal portraits - realized with specific methods and slow procedures, and coloured watercolour pencil techniques on common paper size F4. At the section dedicated to narrative literature, I have introduced my letters and articles published on two local newspapers, related to topics that range from current news to territory-related issues.
In particular, I wish to thank my brother Matteo who helped me with the web site graphics, along with all those who will choose to add my website to their links.
